The Jorge Alió and The Elena Barraquer Foundation join forces to perform 300 cataract surgeries in Mauritania.

New expedition of the ‘Nouadhibou Vision Project’ that seeks to improve the visual health of the population of Nouadhibou.

The Jorge Alió Foundation for the Prevention of Blindness has invited the Elena Barraquer Foundation to participate in the ‘Nouadhibou Vision Project’ that it has been developing in Mauritania for more than 15 years. This new expedition will take place from September 8 to 17 and will once again have Alicante/Barcelona as departure ports. Thus, both entities will collaborate with the intention of performing more than 300 cataract surgeries. This initiative will take place in  the ‘Centro Oftalmológico Hispano Kuwaiti Nouadhibou Vision. Yacoub Al Nafisi Building’, the first ophthalmological hospital in the country that offers health care to the population.

The Elena Barraquer Foundation will travel to the city of Nouadhibou to improve the visual health of its population. The team, led by Dr. Elena Barraquer will travel to perform cataract surgery, which could not be done before due to the pandemic.

This is the 15th expedition, coordinated by María López Iglesias, president of the Jorge Alió Foundation, and Francisco Candela will represent the Jorge Alió Foundation in the expedition.

With all this, the Jorge Alió Foundation continues a long tradition of collaboration with the Barraquer Family, who this time join forces to carry out an exciting international cooperation project, ‘Nouadhibou Vision’, created by the Jorge Alió Foundation.
