I want to thank all of you for making the expedition to Senegal one of the most beautiful experiences of my life.

After days filled with fears and doubts, I finally managed to get on the plane and arrive in Dakar. On the first day I didn’t feel well at all. It was probably the stress, not knowing whether I would do things right or wrong, or if I would be able to live up to all of you. But little by little, peace and joy began to return to my heart.

Thank you for all the knowledge I am taking with me from Senegal—both spiritual and technical—and for the great lesson in gratitude, generosity and solidarity. The looks, the smiles and the handshakes from the patients are something I will never forget.

I will have a long life because many of the people who were operated on and given their lives back—with more or less vision—have sincerely wished that for me. Because something else I learned is that recovering even 10% of your vision, when you previously had none, is already something truly meaningful.

The idea of a long life is also relative, because if I were to leave this world tomorrow, I would go with a happy spirit for having had the chance to experience all these feelings.

I hope to return very soon on another expedition to feel all of this again—sensations that will stay with me for the rest of my life, just like the memory of the entire team from this wonderful expedition.
