The expedition in Honduras with the Elena Barraquer Foundation comes to an end, I can’t help but feel a mixture of emotion and gratitude. They have been intense days, full of hard work, learning and unforgettable moments.

On this mission, we have managed to operate on 415 people with cataracts. Seeing their faces light up when they regained their sight was something I will never forget. Each person we have treated has taught us something, whether it was their smile, their hug or their words of gratitude. There is nothing nicer than knowing that our efforts have changed lives.

I would like to give my heartfelt thanks to the Elena Barraquer Foundation for making this possible. Their commitment to the fight against avoidable blindness is incredible and I feel very fortunate to have been part of this.

I would also like to thank each and every one of my teammates – what a luxury to work with such dedicated people with such a big heart! From the surgeons to the nursing team, the anaesthetists and volunteers, everyone has done their bit to make this a success. The long days, the challenges and the shared laughter brought us all together in a special way.
