I had wanted to take part in a humanitarian expedition as a volunteer for years but the right circumstances had never arisen for me to do so. So, when they finally told me that I could go with the Elena Barraquer Foundation, I was very excited because it was one of my life’s goals. In May I travelled to Honduras and it has been a wonderful experience where I have learned a lot, I didn’t know any of the team, but as expected, all the people I have met have filled me with energy. The organisation and coordination during the trip has been perfect. It only remains for me to thank everyone and everything, I will come back again!

I would highlight from my experience as a surgeon on the expedition to Honduras the magnificent organisation, the good fortune to have had colleagues who made these days of intense work so pleasant and to feel the affection of all the staff and patients at the Hospital de San Felipe. Participating in an expedition is not ONLY about helping to give light to our patients. As a surgeon it is not ONLY about operating on cataracts. It is to DO and ENJOY a perfect team between the preparation, a long time before the trip already at the Foundation, the anaesthesiologists, instrumentalists and field assistants, because together we manage to bring a smile to all the patients we operate on. In addition, we cannot forget all the staff who helped us in the hospital of San Felipe in Honduras, who have taken this expedition to a higher level. Thank you all for this life experience.
