At a gala presided over by King Felipe VI and attended by leaders such as Pedro S\u00e1nchez, Salvador Illa, and Jaume Collboni, recognition was given to individuals and institutions whose work and commitment are leaving their mark on society.<\/p>\n<p>Among the award winners, Elena Barraquer stood out in particular, receiving the Lifetime Achievement Award for a life dedicated to restoring sight\u2014and with it, hope\u2014to thousands of people in Africa and other developing countries.<\/p>\n<h3>A vocation that becomes a legacy<\/h3>\n<p>Born in Barcelona in 1954, Elena Barraquer grew up surrounded by a family tradition of ophthalmology. After graduating in Medicine and Surgery from the Autonomous University of Barcelona, she trained at prestigious centers in the United States and developed her international career before returning to the Barraquer Ophthalmology Center in 2002.<\/p>\n<p>But her true legacy transcends private operating rooms. ELENA BARRAQUER<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<h2>More than 25,000 lives transformed<\/h2>\n<p>After years of commitment, in 2017 she created the Elena Barraquer Foundation to continue these medical missions.
